Tablets vs. Textbooks Summary

What’s so special about tablets?  For starters, tablets can hold over hundreds of books at a time.  For one gigabyte of space, one thousand books can be held, and all the books are accessible all at the same time (2).  Notes can even be made on the tablets in the books; all that has to be done is click where the note goes and type.   Students also learn more material faster through tablets.  Instead of taking ten minutes to search through a textbook, students learn quicker by the technology-based instruction.  According to the US Department of Education, the reduced time it takes students to research learning material is thirty to eighty percent (2).  Tablets cost on average fifty to sixty percent less than textbooks do per year (3).  With tablet prices continuing to decrease due to the newest technology coming out, it would be cheaper for students to have tablets rather than textbooks, that get worn down and sooner or later schools will have to buy new textbooks whereas  tablets are warranted.  One of the big issues with textbooks is that they cause many injuries to students.  Schools want students to learn, yes, but giving them a five to ten pound book is torture, especially having multiple classes with more books.  Tablets are more easy to carry and very convenient to use at any given time.  While on the topic of convenience, files can be downloaded from one tablet to others.  Users can log in to their account on other devices and access all of the information on it.  The information is stored in a program called “cloud” which is what makes your information accessible on equivalent devices (3).
